Increasingly, small businesses have opened across the country to provide louse-combing and nit-picking services. Generally, these companies (or individuals) seem neither to be qualified as medical providers (yet many of them apparently render ‘diagnoses’ and apply medical products), nor licensed as barbers or beauticians (yet many of them use combs, scissors and other implements). One might question the training, expertise and knowledge of disinfecting protocols of these service providers. Patronizing such providers should be a personal choice. The reliance of such commercial services within a school (or as a requirement for attendance) would seem unwise, imprudent and may violate state or other regulations.
